Chapter 2

THIS CHAPTER IS UP TO DATE: 2010

AUTOSTOP / HITCH HIKING: this is now prohibited all over Spain.

However, it can still be done and will (within reason) be tolerated.

BUDGET PILGRIMAGE:

In this chapter we tell you how to keep the costs down. Many pilgrims come from very far:

China, Japan, Australia, Brazil, South-Korea.

The Camino de Santiago Ultimate Handbook will save you a lot of money!

Entering the cathedral in SDC with a backpack is now prohibited. Ask for advice in the Pilgim's Office

on where to store it. (There are guards in and outside the cathedral to maintain order.)

There is a lot of THEFT in the albergues. Watch your valuables! Thieves know where you

keep your money, phone etc.

A lot of albergues / hostals are closed in the OFF SEASON (because of high heating costs). DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING

WHICH IS BEING SAID BY HOSPITALEROS OR ON NOTICES PLACED ON WALLS

("Open all year".)  Ring the Albergues up on the day of arrival.
